The Workplace Conversation Kit

Ask for what you need at work without disclosing more than you want to. Written language, not advice to go figure it out yourself.

What it will include

  • Accommodation request language that does not name a diagnosis. You are allowed to describe the effect on your work without handing over your medical history. Most people do not know that, so they either overshare or say nothing.
  • HR conversation scripts. Word for word, for the meeting you have been putting off — including what to do when the answer is no.
  • A benefits audit worksheet. Go through your own plan line by line and find what is already covered.
  • A doctor visit prep sheet. Turn months of symptoms into one page a clinician will actually read inside a fifteen-minute appointment.
Who writes this

Written by a licensed social worker with ten years working inside employee benefits — which means reading the plan documents most people never get shown.

Educational only. This is not medical advice, legal advice, or a diagnosis, and it does not create a clinical relationship. Employment law varies by state and by employer; for a decision with real stakes, talk to an employment attorney.
